Taking portraits is a lot of responsibility to capture people's personalities. But unlike the first round we did in color, I really enjoyed taking these. They're also the first set of photos I've taken that I really love. I feel like portraiture forces me to ask questions I wouldn't normally and learn things I wouldn't have known. I didn't realize, for example, that my mother would be so self conscious that it would take almost an hour for me to convince her to let me take her photo before showering and getting ready. I'm still really struggling to know which photos are the best. For about three of these, I had another alternative that I thought was equally good and I couldn't decide which story I wanted to tell, or which story would be most appreciated by others. I hope that time will teach me to be able to see the flaws and beauty in my own photography as well as I can see it in others.
